Wherefore he prays that he be appointed such guardian. Arthur Newman by his atty L.C. Ryan Court of Ordinary Pulaski Co. August term 1880 Mrs. Emma Newman the wife of John Newman of said county having appeared before me in open court and selected Arthur Newman of said county as the guardian of her property - It is ordered that the said Arthur Newman be and is being appointed as guardian of the property of the said Emma Newman upon giving bond with good security as the law requires in the sum of Seven Hundred Dollars. Entered Georgia Pulaski County To the Honorable Ordinary of Said County The petition of Arthur Newman showeth that he is the Guardian of the person & property of Emma Newman, formerly Emma Love. That he has been advised & believes that she is entitled to an undivided interest or share in the Estate of Charity Pollock late of Pulaski County deceased besides an undivided interest or share in a certain lot of land No 213 in the 4th Dist of said county (or the proceeds? of said lot as a trust fund?) which was conveyed by (?) to said Charity Pollock for life? with reversion to certain heirs therein named including petitioner ("ward" inserted above) - That said Estate is involved in litigation (several words crossed out) and the interest of his ward is not only undetermined but can only be secured by litigation if at all when the same is (?) by compromise- Petitioner submits to the court that in order to save? his said ward the expense incident to such litigation as will be necessary to determine her said interest & the doubtful character thereof he prays the court to grant him an order all parties? at interest consenting? thereto to sell & convey at & for the consideration of Three Hundred & Fifty Dollars all the interest of hi[s] said ward as aforesaid in the Estate aforesaid as also all her interest in & to the trust fund? aforesaid & any heir to a property purchased with & by compromise aforesaid to sell & convey all of his said Ward’s interest of Every Kind as set forth - Petitioner further submits that said compromise is proper & to be made with Edw A? & Amos Love brothers of Petitioner's said ward and administrators of the Estate of said Charity Pollock. Arthur Newman Gdn Pulaski Ct of Ord August Term 1880 The petition of Arthur Newman Gdn of Emma Newman for leave to compromise the interest of his said ward as set forth in above petition & upon the letters set forth therein, read & considered & it appearing to the court that said interest is a doubtful & undetermined one it is ordered that he have leave to compromise the same as prays for & to execute letter or conveyance? of the said interests of this said ward upon payment to him of said sum of Three Hundred Fifty Dollars. PF McGriff Ordinary Pulaski Co Additional Comments: Emma Love Newman was the daughter of Charles Love and Charity Smith. Charles' will was presented for probate in May 1865. Charity Love subsequently married Morris Pollock in 1869 and died 7 Feb 1879. Emma Love married Arthur John Newman (known as John) on 10 Sep 1877. He died on 17 Dec 1880 of typhoid fever. Two of his adult sisters had succumbed within the preceding week: Anna Newman Kinchen on December 11th and Mary Rebecca Newman on December 16th. Emma Love Newman remarried in July 1882, to William Chancey.
