During the past several months the steamer J. C. Stewart, under the courteous and careful management of Captain Z. W. Lasseter, has been running a regular passenger schedule between Hawkinsville and Abbeville, making three trips a week between the two points. On Monday morning of last week, at 6 o'clock, the Stewart left her wharf at this place, bound for Abbeville, with the following list of passengers: Judge C. C. Kibbee, Solicitor-General Tom Eason, Judge L. C. Ryan, Judge W. L. Grice, Judge Jacob Watson, Capt. John H. Martin, Col. M. T. Hodge, Capt. F. H. Bozeman, Mr. Perry C. Clegg, J. R. Beverly, and R. V. Bowen. Captain Lasseter, assisted by George Bennefield (col.), pilot, and Jim Folsom (col.), engineer, handled the steamer in an admirable manner, and nothing was left undone by the captain and his excellent crew to make the trip pleas p. 100 ant and interesting to all aboard, and the steamer reached her landing at Abbeville at 11 o'clock, having made the run of seventy-five miles in less than five hours. Charlie Walker (col.), the excellent cook, prepared a splendid breakfast, which was greatly enjoyed. The steamer left Abbeville at 6 o'clock on Thursday morning and arrived at Hawkinsville at 3 P. M., with a delightful list of passengers who are loud in their praises of the excellent manner in which they were treated by Captain Lasseter and his entire crew. Dinner was served by Charlie (col.) the cook at the proper hour in a fine way and was much enjoyed.
