Thursday Morning, 23 Oct. 1873: Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, age 84, died on the 23 day of September last. Her days upon earth had been mmany, and she seemed to enjoy them as well in her old age as when in the springtime of lie. We saw her last summer at a picnic with young people, and none appeared more joyful than this lady of many years. We set a request to her son, Mr. J. A. J. Phillips, of Hartford, for a few incidents and facts connected with her life and received the following: Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, daughter of Col. John Nicholson, of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, was born 26 Feb 1790; married to Mathew Phillips, 27 Feb. 1812; left a widow with three small children 23 Oct 1823. She never contracted a second marriage, but for half a century devoted her whole affection and energies o the comfort and interest of the offspring of her first love. In this work of love she received encouragement and many favors from the Masonic fraternity, of which institution her husband was an honored member. She died 23 Sept. 1873 Additional Comments: Compiler Notes: Elizabeth Nicholson Philips came to Pulaski County Georgia after the Death of her husband 23 Oct 1823. She and her three small children reside near Hartford where she had bought land. She had three children and never married a second time.
