All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Beth Collins collins@negia.net December 10, 2003, 11:51 am Lot 206, 4th District, Putnam County Written: February 4 1812 Recorded: March 4 1813 Putnam County, Deed Book C, page 137 Georgia } This indenture made the fourth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve between Edward Varner esquire Sheriff of the County of Putnam of the one part and Giles Tompkins of the County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that whereas by virtue of an execution issued out of the Inferior Court of the County and State aforesaid by Colman Pendleton Clk, at the instance of Thomas W Harris against Mattox Mays, bearing date the tenth day of December in the year One thousand Eight hundred and eleven which said execution being levied on two hundred two and one half acres of land the then Sheriff of the County aforesaid now be it Known that the said Edward Varner esquire sheriff as aforesaid did seize and take in execution one lot or parcel of land Containing two hundred two and one half acres of land number two hundred & six in the fourth district of originally Baldwin now Putnam County on the waters of lick Creek whereon Mattox Mays now lives and after giving all due legal and public notice on the first Tuesday in February being the fourth day of the Month between the hours of ten and three O’Clock on that day did set up and expose to sale at public outcry all that lot or parcel of land described as aforesaid and at which sale the said Giles Tompkins became the highest bidder and purchaser and the same was knocked off to him at the price or the sum of One hundred and fifty dollars Now this Indenture Witnesseth that I Edward Varner Esquire Sheriff as aforesaid and Successor to William Varner late Sheriff as aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand paid at and before the Sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged towards payment and satisfaction of the said Judgment and execution as aforesaid hath Granted bargained and Sold and by these presents and by virtue of the said execution and the laws of the land doth Grant bargain and Sell unto the said Giles Tompkins his heirs and assigns all that the aforesaid lot or parcel of land doth Contain together with all and singular eh rights members and appurtenances to the said premises having belonging or in anywise appertaining and all the estate right title interest claim and demand of Mattox Mays whatsoever in law or equity, of, in, or to the same so far as the said Sheriff may or can dispose thereof under & by virtue of the aforesaid Execution In testimony whereof the said Edward Varner Esqr Sheriff aforesaid & Successor to the late William Varner Shff as aforesaid hath hereunto set his hand & affixed his Seal the day & year first above written Signed, Sealed & delivered in presence of C.
