Dr. Robert M. O: 1/23/1864 Volume: 27 Number: 25 Page: 2 Column: 4 REV. DR. ROBERT M. CARTER, died on 6th May, 1864 in his 51st year. He had much tribulation, and great grace. Three of his children had crossed the flood before him -- one from the battlefield -- most of his property had but lately vanished from his possession, and he (??) from his peaceful home in Northern Georgia, to find refuge in South--Western Georgia. But, amid it all, his acts proclaimed: "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him." He filled well the measure of Christian character in all the (??)ions of life. He was attacked with apoplexy while delivering an address before a school in the neighborhood. He was immediately conveyed to his house, and conscious of his approaching end, he embraced his weeping family, one by one, and bid them farewell, -- said "My way is clear, -- death has no terrors," -- requested several good hymns to be read -- spent his last articulate words praising God, and when his tongue was paralyzed, with his finger he pointed above, whither his triumphant spirit fled.
