Mr. Pinkerton was born in Putnam county Feb 15, 1826, and to the best interests of her people the years of his long and useful life were spent. Being a man of deep convictions and of strong devotion to the principles that he thought right, he entered most heartily into the cause of the South in the stormy days of civil strife, and enlisted with the Brown Rifles under Capt. R.B. Nesbit in 1861. Never very strong, his health was not equal to the demands of army life; in Aug 1861 he was honorably discharged for physical disabilities. However in 1861 he again enlisted, with the State troops, but was again discharged, and returned home a physical wreck. On Oct 1, 1861, he was married to Miss Mary Harrison, daughter of the late A.B. Harrison. Of the seven children born to them, five noble sons survive, all honored and respected citizens of this county. Since the war Mr. Pinkerton has been a great sufferer, but always bore his suffering with a great deal of patience and fortitude, and was always bright and cheerful, extending a generous hospitality to his many friends and acquaintances. He had been quite feeble for the past year, but had only been confined to his bed for about two weeks. On Friday afternoon, May 20, the funeral services was conducted at his late residence in the presence of relatives and friends, by Rev. Joe Hudson officiating; then the body was laid to rest by tender and loving hands in the old family burying ground where many of his family sleep. To the bereaved widow and sons the sincere sympathy of all is extended in this the hour of their great sorrow. J.E. Russell Additional Comments: James is the son of James Pinkerton and Elizabeth J.
