Pinkerton, aged 86 years and a native of Putnam county, at the residence of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. P.H. Pinkerton, in Macon. The news of the passing away of Mr. Pinkerton became generally known in Eatonton Thursday morning and was received with deep and genuine sorrow. The deceased, who had lived here practically all his life, was among the best known and most highly esteemed citizens of the county. He was a Confederate veteran having served throughout the War Between the States with fidelity to the principles that were the foundation of the government of the Confederate States, and with personal courage that was not excelled by any of those who followed the Stars and Bars from the First Battle of Manassas until Appomattox. Mr. Pinkerton was at the time of his demise, and for many years before, a consistent, though perhaps not demonstrative member of the Baptist church, to the institutions of which he always showed a strong attachment which, even in the closing and infirm days of life, when business cares had to be more or less neglected, never flagged. At one time, Mr. Pinkerton was surveyor of Putnam of Putnam county. The deceased was twice married, his first wife being, before his marriage Miss Annaliza Echols of Baldwin county. Of that union there were three sons, two daughters and two step-daughters (he married his brother's widow), viz: J.D. Pinkerton and Walter Pinkerton of Putnam county; P.H. Pinkerton, deceased of Macon, Bibb county; Mrs. Thomas Fraley of Milledgeville and Mrs. James Wright of Macon; and Mrs. J.R. Griffin and Mrs. Dave Winslette, of Eatonton, the two later being step-daughters. Mr. Pinkerton's second wife is Mrs. H.R. Pinkerton of Eatonton who survives. The funeral and interment took place on Thursday; a large number of Eatonton and Putnam county relatives and friends attending the last rites in mute testimony of love and esteem. Additional Comments: Henry Reid Pinkerton, son of James and Elizabeth J. Dupree, was born in Rockville, Putnam County and is buried in Fort Hill Cemetery, Macon, Bibb County, GA. He married first, Mary Ann Elizabeth Echols Pinkerton, widow of his brother, William Griffin Pinkerton, daughter of Peter and Virginia A. Echols of Baldwin County, GA. His second wife was Sarah Elizabeth King, daughter of Elisha King and Elizabeth Ann Johnston.
