PINKERTON Former City Councilman Passes Sunday at his Home C.E. Pinkerton, prominent retired farmer and businessman, died at his home here Sunday night following an illness of several days. Affectionately known to many friends as “Uncle Charlie” Pinkerton, he was endeared to all by his jolly disposition and love for practical jokes. He was keenly interested in the collection of antiques, especially walking canes, and found his greatest delight in fox hunting. Born and reared in Putnam county, he was a successful farmer in the Rockville neighborhood. He later retired and moved to Eatonton where he continued to supervise his plantations. While a young man he married Miss Mary Baugh, who survives him. He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist and the local Masonic lodge. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning with Rev. R.C. Singleton and Rev. H.B. Landrum officiating. His Masonic brothers had charge. Those who served as pallbearers were: active – W.C. Williford, J.H. Pinkerton, Lucius Franklin, Mr. Nickerson, and Marvin Lackhart: honorary – A.J. Rossee, P.C. Rossee, F.S. Batchelor, E.D. Newsom, J.M Gregory, and Dr. E.F. Griffin. Besides his faithful wife, he is survived by four brothers, J.A. Pinkerton, Daytona Beach, Fla., N.C., E.R. and W.H. Pinkerton of Eatonton. Additional Comments: Charles Edwin Pinkerton, son of James Alexander Pinkerton and Mary Frances Harrison, married Mary Elizabeth Baugh, daughter of John Jackson Baugh and Mary Ann Elizabeth Pinkerton, on Dec 25, 1850 in Putnam County. They had one child who died at birth.
