S. Walker, one of West Putnam's oldest and best-loved women, died suddenly, Thursday night, just after eating a hearty supper, seemingly in the best of health and after a happy day spent with several of her children and grandchildren. Leaving the dining room after arranging affairs for the night she was noticed to suddenly turn very pale and utter seemingly a sigh, passing into the sleep that knows no waking, without pain of suffering like a tired child at the close of day. Mrs. Walker was a woman of splendid character, attractive personality, strong mental and moral power, a true and faithful member of Avalona Methodist Church since young womanhood, and reared to useful manhood and womanhood a large family today numbered among the county and state's best citizens. In early young womanhood she was married to the late Dr. N. S. Walker, one of the finest gentlemen and physicians in Georgia, at the time of his death. In thorough sympathy with him in all of his work, Mrs. Walker's home was always made bright and pleasant to those who came to her husband's home for treatment, many remaining for weeks at a time as a member of her family. Always bright and jolly, "Big Mama's" home as the grandchildren called it, was ever a happy spot to the children and grandchildren called it, was ever a happy spot to the children and grandchildren who gathered there often in family re-unions and on Sundays. On the last day of her life several were with her and spent the day in having pleasure, like dreaming ---- "That sad and strange as it seemed to be, That ere the day was done; The voice with them speaking, Would be beyond the sun." The funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at three o'clock from Avalona Church by her pastor, Rev. A. Ernest, after which the remains were interred on the family l ot adjoining the church to rest until the resurrection morn. At the time of her death, Mrs. Walker was seventy-eight years of age. Her life, full of good, was kind hearted and charitable to all, she was indeed a mother to the community as well as her family, and will be sadly missed. "Her children will rise up and call her blessed," and her name will live long in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. To the bereaved family, we extend sincere sympathy.
