Porter Methvin and his wife Margaret Burke Methvin once owned the farm where this large family cemetery is located. Everyone that is buried here is known to be closely related to them. On the next farm lived Erasmus and Sarah Smith Dawson Gay with their children. Several of the Gays married a Methvin. Ann Gay Methvin Shepard, daughter of Erasmus and Sarah Gay, was married twice, first to Daniel Burke Methvin, who was taken prisoner of war and died at Fortress Monroe, Virginia; and second, to Seaborn Shepherd. Ann requested that she be buried here with the little children. The cemetery is located in the woods back of the old Lokey home. To find it take the first paved road to the left on Highway 39 going south until the Ralph Balkcom home is passed. It is on the next farm.
