A chain link fence has been placed around it to protect the site. The large mounds of stones that had been placed over each grave have been removed over the years by unknown persons. The following people are known to be buried here. Thomas Jefferson SHIRLEY b Aug. 17, 1814 died around 1888 Nancy Alley SHIRLEY b 1816 d Mar. 1, 1896 Frances Shirley SPENCE Greene SPENCE There could be several small children and Jane Oxford ALLEY, the mother of Nany Alley SHIRLEY buried here also. She was living with the Shirley family in 1860. She was born in 1791 and died between 1860 and 1870. The name has been spelled SHARLEY by all the children of Thomas Jefferson SHIRLEY, however, an old letter to him from his half brothr used the SHIRLEY spelling. To find this cemetery, take the dirt road to the right at Sandtown that is off the Union road and then take the first dirt road to the right that leads to the old Warner Edwards' home.
