They were among the first settlers in the area and were large land owners. Dr. S. P. Burnett married three times; his wives names are not known. Capt. Burnett, CSA, was a son of the first marrige. Bob Burnett was a son of the second marriage. J. D. Burnett, who was killed during a robbery of their store, was also a son of the second marriage. He is buried in this cemetery. The Ricks, a rich family in the area, had a young lady to come stay with them, who could have been a tutor to the Ricks children. She married Capt. Burnett. Bill, Hop and Ben were children of this marriage. Most large plantations along the Chattahoochee River had boat ramps. Bill Burnett told the story that he and a Black boy were sent down to the boat ramp to wait for the boat. It came by at night, so a fire was made to light the torches to be used to flag it. They laid down by the fire and went to sleep, waking up when the whistle sounded for the Georgetown landing. They had to stay on the river bank for nearly a week, waiting for the next boat going to Columbus, in order to ship the cotton up river. Mr. Frank Bledsoe BURNETT FAMILY CEMETERY J. W.
