PAUL A.M.E. CHURCH African American) Meetings were held for several years in a bush arbor that overlooked the site where the church was constructed. The land for this church building was purchased from Mrs. A. M. Gay on March 25, 1919. The deed was recorded at the Courthouse in Georgetown in April of that year. The building that was erected consisted of a large meeting room, a belfry, and a small front porch. This building still stands and remains in fair shape. The large bell was removed from the belfry before the church disbanded and the corner stone was removed after the church closed. Their whereabouts remains a mystery. The closing of the church took place in 1976. At this time, St. Paul's small congregation merged with two other small congregations to form a larger church. The cemetery remains in use, although no one has been buried there for about three years. It is to the right of the church as is the little one room school house that was used by the community for many years. "Cemeteries and Churches of Quitman County, Georgia" by Jacquelyn M.
