The first building was made of logs and was located across the road and down the hill toward the Quitman County line. The benches were hewed logs. This building was in use until 1870 when a second church was constructed. Its site was to the side of the present building, about where the Edwards' family plot is in the cemetery now. It was a clapboard building that was used by the congregation until 1909. The building that is in use today was then erected. The old clapboard building was given to Mr. John Pearce and was used in the construction of tenant houses. The trustees in 1909 were: John Pearce, Stonewall Bryant and Walter O. Phillips. Due to a lack of interest and a decline in membership, the church needed many repairs. There were broken and missing window panes, siding had pulled away from the structure leaving bare places on the outside of the building and the old wooden steps with no backing were about to fall in. Under the guidance of J. D. Spence and J. W. Edwards with donations from many families the building was reworked in the 1960's. Recent improvements include aluminum siding, landscaping, new carpet, pulpit drapes, a new piano and communion table. In 1970 a large stone monument was placed at the front of the church by Ruth Banks. It reads, "Welcome to Sharon Methodist Church, given in honor of J. D. & Ruby Spence." Mr. J. D.
