CHURCH (African American) It is believed that Union A.M.E. Church was established about 1885 by the Reverend Steward Green Harden, Brother Crawford Brown, Brother Peterson Williams, Brother Harry Davis and brother Ruben Proctor were the church officers. The first Union A.M.E. Church was located at the cemetery site, just a little better than a stones throw from the present location. This first church was believed to have been near the Oak Grove Post Office. There was a fire and the church burned and was relocated, although a smaller structure was constructed. Through many years of struggle Union A.M.E. Church has survived and although the membership is small, continues to carry on with the Lords' Work. The officers are: Brother Albert Dixon, Brother Carnal Dixon, Brother Hilhard Lewis, Brother Jim Wootson, Brother Livingston Parks, and Sister Alma Dixon. The Reverend A. Washington serves as pastor and the Reverend L. W. Wilson as Presiding Elder. A history of the church was written about 1955 by church members. Much of the information shown comes from that document.
