They had been placed in the large church register. They are not complete, even the years that are shown. Mr. I. L. Balkcom III has them and gave his permission for them to be copied and the information they held shared. He is the grandson of I. L. Balkcom, who was the church clerk from 1884 through 1898. The records shown start in November of 1897. Many had the same heading, After Divine service, the church met in conference. Nov. 4, 1897 - I. L. Balkcom charged G. A. Pinkston with not having acted in a good way in business. Bro. J. S. Knowles, Mod. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. April 30, 1898- Sister Minnie Willis was granted a letter of dismissal. Brother W. H. Norton, Mod., I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. June 4, 1898 - Brother C. A. Lanier was granted a letter of dismission. Bro. W. H. Norton, Mod., I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. September 3, 1898 - W. A. Beauchamp was received for baptism. ? G. Pinkston, W. W. Moore, J. M. Oliver, and I. L. Balkcom were elected as delegates to the Association with the authority to appoint alternates. It was agreed to send 75 cents for printing minutes and 50 cents for Associationals. Bro. Norton, Mod., I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. Supplement - The Missionary Committee was to consist of Sister Mattie Moore, Sister Ethel Surles, Sister Mamie Castellow, and Sister Eva Lanier. The matter of Bro. Norton's resignation was taken up and was accepted and the call for a pastor was made. Bro. Z. N. Weaver was given a unanimous call for a year at a salary of $150.00. The committee was to notify Brother Weaver of the call. October 1, 1898 - The committee notified the church that Brother Weaver could not accept the call of the church. Brother J. S. Knowles was unanimously called to the care of the church at a salary of $125.00 and brothers W. J. Harrell and J. N. Roberts were appointed a committee to notify him. Charges were brought against Brethren W. L. Jolly, Lester Gay, G. A. Pinkston, W. J. Roberts, Chur. Roberts, N. S. Roberts, W. W. Moore, Ab and Jack Hammond for using profane language. Brethren J. M. Oliver, J. A. Moore, and W. T. Moore were appointed a committee to see said brethren. Brother Norton, Mod., I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. November 4, 1898 - The committee reported that Brethren G. A. Pinkston, Jack Hammond, Lester Gay, Claude and Norman Roberts and W. W. Moore made due acknowledgment for using profane language and it was motioned that they were accepted by the church. W. L. Jolly denied the charge. Lester Gay was excused. Brother Oliver was excused for his absence at last conference Brother Knowles was elected at a salary of $125.00 for another year. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. Feby. 4th, 1899 - The clerk stated that he had sent Brother Norton $11.20 of the amount due him. A committee consisting of J. J. Castellow, W. T. Moore, J. T. Roberts and J. M. Lanier was appointed to assist the deacons in collecting the balance that was due to Brother Norton. Brother W. T. Moore was present and made satisfactory acknowledgments. The clerk stated that there was a balance of $50.00 still due to Brother Norton. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. April 1st 1899 - The committee to get the balance due to Brother Norton was continued. J. __ Pinkston rendered satisfactory acknowledgments through Brother Knowles and was restored the fellowship of the church. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. June 3rd 1890 - W. T. Moore and W. F. Moore made satisfactory excuses for absence. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. August 5th 1899 - Charges were preferred against Brother Jolly for non- attendance at Conference. Brother J. J. Castellow and A. N. Surles were appointed a committee to see him. Charges were made against W. B. Hart, Sr. for using profane language, the old committee to see him. The committee had failed to see Lester Gay and Ab Hammond. The others were excused. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. Supplement - The meeting by agreement was continued for a few days and Mrs. Alice Harris and Walter Hart were baptized and received into the fellowship of the church. John Beard was received as a candidate for baptism. Sept. 3rd 1899 - The committee to see W. L. Jolly failed to receive a satisfactory excuse from him and fellowship was withdrawn from him. Ab Hammond admitted having used profane language and a charge was preferred against him for the same and his case was continued. W. B. Hart, T. G. Pinkston, J. T. Roberts, W. J. Roberts, and J. M. Oliver were appointed a committee to see Brethren: R. W. Beauchamp, Ab Hammond, W. B. Hart, G. B. Gay, Lester Gay, Claude Roberts, A. N. Roberts, and W. L. Jolly and to cite them to conference the next conference. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. Sept. 30, 1899 - The church went into the election of delegates to the Association. Brethren: J. M. Oliver, W. T. Moore, T. G. Pinkston, and I. L. Balkcom were chosen. Acknowledgments and excuses for absences were given. It was agreed to send 50 cents for associational and 75 cents for printing minutes. The clerk was instructed to prepare a letter to the association. I. L. Balkcom, Clerk. There were no minutes found for 1900 and 1901. Feby 1st 1902 - Rev. J. W. Newsom was the preacher and J. C. Moore was the clerk. There was no business. March 1st 1902 - The church elected J. W. Lanier and T. G. Pinkston as deacons. Brother J. M. Oliver read a letter from the First Church of Dothan, Ala. asking this church for the church letter of Brother E. E. Varna. Bro. Varna having been excluded from Enon, the church was unwilling to give a letter without acknowledgments. Bro. Oliver was requested to lay the matter before the church at Dothan. The church then granted letters of dismission to J. E. Pinkston, Bob and Will Bechamp, Sister Bechaump, and Sister Ann Thomson, J. C. Moore, Clerk. April 5th 1902 - Brother J. M. Oliver read a letter of acknowledgment from E. E. Varna which the church received and granted him a letter of dismission. J. C. Moore, Clerk. May 31, 1902 - No business discussed. J. W. Newsom, Moderator, J. C. Moore, Clerk. July 5, 1902 - No business. Rev. J. W. Newsom, Moderator, J. C. Moore, Clerk. August 3, 1902 - Brother J. W. Newsom received by letter. Sister Lonie Fay was given a letter of dismission. A committee of Sister Mattie Surles and Sister Pearl Newsom to draw up resolutions on the life of Sister Jane Roberts. Sister Mattie Moore and Sister Josie Harrell were appointed to draw up resolution on the life of Sister Mary Jolly. J. C. Moore, Clerk. Supplement - The meeting was continued for a few days, the following additions were made: Sister Mattie Roberts by restoration, Sister Sarah Jolly, Sister Lila Dozier, and Sister Fannie Beard, Brother Rufus Rutland and Brother Larence Roberts were received by baptism. October 1902 - J. W. Newsom, W. F. Moore, and J. L. Roberts were elected as delegates to the Association. By motion an invitation was extended to the Bethel Association to hold its next session at this church. J. W. Newsom, Mod. W. J. Moore, Clerk pro tem. November 2, 1902 - Bro. J. M. Oliver, Mod. Bro. Newsom was called to serve the church another year at the same salary. He asked the church to give him until tomorrow to give his answer. J. C. Moore, Clerk. January 3, 1903 - The church proposed Sunday instead of Saturday to hold conference. J. C. Moore, Clerk. January 31, 1903 - W. F. Moore made acknowledgment for being absent from conference. The conference day was voted to Sunday. A committee was appointed to draw up a resolution on the death of Brother J. M. Oliver. The committee members were J. J. Castellow, J. M. Lanier, W. J. and W. F. Moore. W. F. Moore, Clerk. Feby 3, 1903 - Conference was called for the purpose of granting Brother Schenck (?) a letter of dismission. J. C. Moore, Clerk. August 2, 1903 - Resolved that a committee of brethren from this and other sister churches be appointed with authority to enquire into any unsatisfactory candidates in the church and to give such advice to individuals and to the church as may seem wise. J. W. Lanier, Pro tem, J. C. Moore, Clerk. September 19, 1903 - To rescind the resolution that the church adopted last conference. Bro. J. W. Newsom resigned the care of the church. The church elected Bro. Hart, Bro. Newsom, and Bro. Will Georsuch as messengers to the association. A committee composed of J. W. Lanier, W. L. Moore, Georsuch, and J. C. Moore was appointed to look into the decorum of the church and advise such changes if any that would help the church. J. W. Lanier, Pro tem, J. C. Moore, Clerk. October 4, 1903 - The committee to look after the decorum made their reports but the church didn't do anything. Letters of dismissal were granted to Bro. J. M. Lanier, his wife and daughter. Bro. Stout (?) Roberts was elected clerk in place of Bro. J. C. Moore. John Lanier, Mod., J. C. Moore, Clerk. November 4, 1903 - Bro. W. H. Simmons was called to pastor the church with the promise of $100.00 salary and as much more as the church could afford. J. T. Roberts, Mod., J. C. Moore, Clerk. December 6, 1903 - Bro. Simmons agreed to accept the call of the church. A motion prevailed to hold conference on Saturday before the 1st Sunday. Bro. Pinkston speaks of disorderliness among the brethren. A committee is appointed to look into all matters of needful discipline, with instructions to report to them as soon as possible. Named to the committee was J. W. Newsom and J. C. Moore. A committee was appointed to cooperate with the church collector in an immediate effort to raise the balance of former pastor's salary and to make further efforts to raise subscriptions on the salary of the present pastor. Committee - W. T. Moore and J.. W. Newsom, W. H. Simmons, Mod., J. W. Newsom, Pro tem. January 2, 1904 - Bro. W. F. Moore is excused from todays conference. Bro. Tom Moore is excused from todays conference. Bro. Tom Moore is excused for continued absence on his acknowledgment. On Bro. Moore's (W.T.) report on pastors' salaries, it is moved that he be directed to continue to cooperate with Bro. Gorsuch (?) in the collection of these salaries. T. G. Pinkston, Mod. pro tem, J. W. Newsom, Clerk pro tem. April 2, 1904 - The committee appointed to labor with Bro. Rutland was asked to continue. Bro. W. T. Moore was elected Deacon. He asked to church to wait until next conference for an answer. W. H. Simmons, Mod., H. S. Roberts, Clerk. May 1, 1904 - Bro. W. T. Moore reported that he had seen Bro. Rutland and he talked as if he would discontinue his business if the church desires it. The committee was continued. Bro. Moore failed to give an answer on acting as Deacon. W. H. Simmons, Mod., J. C. Moore, Clerk pro tem. July 8, 1905 - The committee appointed to visit and report on non-attending members made their report, which was accepted by the church. (No records were found for months between May 1904 and July 1905.) Bro. W. T. Moore gave satisfactory reasons for not attending conference. Bro. Wm. Moore, also, gave reasons for non-attendance, which were satisfactory to the church. Bro. W. J. C. Harrell made a motion that a committee be appointed to revise the church book. The motion carried and Bros. J. J. Castellow and W. T. Moore were appointed to the committee. Bro. W. W. Moore was granted a letter of dismissal. W. H. Simmons, Moderator, J. F. Castellow, Clerk. September 9 & 10, 1905 - Bro. L. Tye and Sisters Evelyn and Leola Tye were received into the church by letter. Brethren J. J. Castellow and W. B. Hart were appointed delegates to the association. Castellow, Clerk. April 4, 1906 - It was decided to hold a protracted meeting the following week. The church being without a pastor, Rev. J. E. White was invited to conduct the meeting, which he did with the assistance of his son, Rev. Clarence white. J. E. White, Mod., J. F. Castellow, Clerk. September 30, 1906 - W. B. Hart and J. F. Castellow were elected delegates to the assn. W. T. Moore and W. J. Roberts and Misses Gertrude Surles and Genie Moore were appointed a committee to raise funds to send to the assn. Rev. J. E. White accepted the call as pastor of the church for the ensuring year. The church agreed to pay him $125.00 a year and as much more as could be raised. J. E. White, Mod., J. F. Castellow, Clerk. April 10, 1909 - Collection was taken for Bro. Devans ? revial education and $2.40 cents was raised and also for the pastor's salary $5.80, Clarence White, Mod., W. T. Moore, Clerk. June 13, 1909 - Letter of dismissal granted to Sister Jinnie Bland, Pastor's salary $10.00, Missions $2.10. W. J. Moore. Moore were appointed a committee to draw up suitable resolutions on the death of our brother, W. J. C. Harrell. The committee report was adopted. "That in the death of Brother Harrell the country lost an honest man, that his children lost a kindly loving an indulgent father and Enon Church lost one of its oldest sincerest ? devoted counselors, foremost in every good word and work for the cause of his Lord and Master and that we deplore his absence but feel that he is only gone before and has entered into hat rest that awaits the people of God." Due to conditions of the weather and crops of the community the meetings were postponed until August. W. T. The moderator was instructed to appoint a finance committee and Lonnie Tye, J. W. Collected for orphans home, four dollars and twenty five cents. 2nd Saturday in November ? - Brother J. W. Watson was elected to serve the church for another year at a salary of $175.00 to be paid monthly as near as possible, raised brother White's salary $30.00. Clarence White, Moderator, W. T. Moore, Clerk. Resolution on the life of J. J. Castellow - A good and useful man has passed to his reward. The summons came on Sunday night, Feb. 22, 1914. Bro. Castellow had been a member of Enon Church for more than forty years, having joined in early manhood and no charge of wrong doing had ever been brought against him. This, our house of Worship, stands as a monument to his liberal giving of time and means, as one of the building committee of which he was the last surviving member. His motto was "Do and not say." Whereas, God has taken him to himself, be it resolved, 1st. That we as a church bow in humble submission to his Divine will. 2nd. That in the death of Bro. Castellow, the church has lost a useful member, the wife, a devoted husband, the children, an indulgent and loving father and the county and state a great citizen. Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be given the family and a copy be sent the christian Index for publication and a page of our church book be set apart with these resolutions written thereon. Resolutions on the life of Mrs. Angie Gay - A beautiful and useful life was ended when God in His infinite wisdom removed from our mist, our beloved sister, Mrs. Angie Gay, who answered his call on Easter Sunday. Sister Gay joined Enon Church in early womanhood and lived a consistent christian life for upward of forty years. Whereas, God has seen fit to take her from us, be it resolved that we as a church, bow in humble submission to his Divine will. That we extend the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathies, that a copy be sent the Christian Index for publication and a page in our church book be set apart for these resolutions. On motion, it was decided if any member of Committee on Publications be absent at First Quarterly, (when they are to pass on Text Book,) he may be represent by Proxy. By call and vote, the second Quarterly will meet with Blufton Church 1st Sunday and Saturday before in July; and the third Quarterly to convene with Mt. Hebron Church the 2nd Sunday and Saturday before in September. The following were adopted: Resolved, That we, the Chattahoochee Musical Convention, assembled, offer our heartfelt thanks to the good people of this community, for the hospitable manner in which they have entertained us during this session; and to the membership of this church for the use of their house of worship. Resolved, That we tender our sincere thanks to the President and officers of the Convention for the satisfactory manner in which the business of the body has been conducted; also to Miss Nannie Coley and Prof. J.
