They are known to be the Reverend George W. Key, the Reverend Stephen Rowe, and Reverend William B. Burton. The church was first located about eight miles from Hatcher on the east bank of Patuala Creek, in what is now Clay County. After a time the church was moved to the west bank of Pataula. The Cross Roads location was selected about 1857. Several of the early members were former members of Pataula Baptist. Among them were John H. Hatcher, John Neel, James Methvin, Joel Smith and William Ross. The Reverend James Cumbie was the first pastor. The Hatchers, Smiths, Dawsons, Methvins, Moores, Olivers, McClendons, Castellows, Balkcoms, Doziers, Harrells, Roberts, Harts, Pittmans and Surles were some of the families that helped to make Enon a thriving Church. In 1877 some of these families helped build a spacious structure that remained until 1945. It was then given to Georgetown Baptist Church to be torn down and used in the building of a parsonage. The last pastor of Enon was the Reverend H. L. Crumbley in 1929. 1930 brought a closing of the church doors and Enon Church was no more despite the efforts of loyal members like Mr. John Crawford Moore. Mrs. Betsie Ann Pittman united with Enon Church and was baptized by Reverend Thomas Muse. She was born September 12th, 1825 and married James Ricks Pittman in 1840. She died in April of 1887 and is buried in the Pittman cemetery just up the road from Enon. She was believed to be an exemplary Christian, a sympathizing friend and a fond mother. She was sick for two years preceding her death but was resigned to the will of her Heavenly Father and waited calmly for her summons from on high. Mrs. Fannie C. Roberts was united with Enon Baptist Church August 5th, 1870 and was baptized by the Reverend Thomas Muse. She was the daughter of Ichabod and Caroline Balkcom and is buried in the Pittman cemetery. She was born May 31, 1852 and died in April of 1887. Mrs. Mabel Ogletree Smith united with Enon Baptist church as a young girl, along with other members of her family, upon moving to the area. This was during the time of trying to keep the church open. Mrs. Smith is the great- granddaughter of Betsy Pittman. The Cuthbert Times Quitman Co.
