It was organized in 1843 and was located near the site of the Guilford Cemetery. The meeting house was crude with logs being used as benches. The first pastor was the Reverend Muse. It was reported in the minutes of the Association that Liberty Church had a membership of eighteen the first year. Early members were: Harris Brantley, Everett Floyd, David Johnson, John Key, William Lanier, James Martin, Wiley Page, Luther Warren, Capt. James Harrison, and Major W. L. Crawford. The church was closed in 1852, when it was decided by the members to move to Georgetown and erect a new church building. The Cuthbert Times Quitman Co.
