J. E. Methvin was the first clerk and W. E. and R. G. (D?) Gay were the first delegates to the Association from the church. Lokey and King are family names that were associated with the early church. A part of Midway Church yet stands today. The beams are about fifteen feet tall and are very straight. The wooden pegs that were used to join the timbers are visible in places and are quite large. It is found in Clay County on the first farm past the Quitman County line. Midway Church news found in old newspapers. April 23, 1897...Emmet Shaw from Mt. Vernon was at church on Sunday. W. E. Gay an Mrs. T. J. Methvin were at church at Midway on Sunday. Mr. W. E. Gay Jr. was at both services Sunday, he has been ill but is looking much better. Liberty Enterprise July 22, 1897...Protacted meeting is going on at Midway Church. Mrs. Earnest L. Gay, Nimmie Methvin and Emma Gay were baptized on Tuesday. W. E. Gay Jr. is gradually regaining his health. It is hoped he will be entirely relieved of his rheumatic troubles.
