Jefferson P. Tye Georgetown, Ga After a short period of preliminary military training in local camps, Private Tye embarked for over-sea service. Served with the 4th Company of the Ordinance Department. Died at Brest, France, October 22nd, 1918. Private Tye was 28 years of age at the time of his death. Additional Comments: The American Legion Post in Americus, Ga was named the Jefferson Posey Tye Post in honor of the only soldier from Sumter County (where he was living then) that died in WWI. He was born in Georgetown and lived in Americus.
