Turpin, Pvt in Co. I, 65th Ga Inf., for Nov. & Dec. 1863, enlisted Feb. 14, 1862, Clarksville, Ga., under Capt. Grant; 3 yr period, last paid by: M. B. Pilcher, Oct. 11, 1863; present; remarks: bounty due. Camp near Dalton, Ga., Mar. 5, 1864: S. Cooper, A and I General. I have the honor to apply through you to the Secretary of War for the discharge of Private A.P. Turpin, Co. I, 65 Ga. Regiment for the following reason, Viz. The said A.P. Turpin is duly commissioned by the Governor of the State of Ga. as Tax Receiver of said State and County of Rabun for the year 1864. As will more fully appear by reference to the attached certificate of the Clerk of the Inferior Court of said State and County of Rabun. John A. Jones, 1st Sect. Commander 65 Ga. Regt. I hereby certify the Private A.P. Turpin Co. I, 65 Ga. Regt. was enlisted on the 14 Feb. 1863 prior in point of time to his election as Tax Receiver, his election being held on the first Wednesday in Jan. 1864. John A. Jones, 1st Lieutenant, Commander Co. I, 65 Ga. Vols. Knoxville, Tennessee July 25th, 1863, personally appeared before me a quartermaster CSA private A.P. Turpin, Co. I, Fains Regt. Ga. Vols., and made oath that the within account amounting to twenty two dollars is correct; that he is not in debt to the Confederate States, that he will present a statement of this payment to his commanding officer. H. S. Smith, Lt. was in command Co. I, Fain's Ga. Vols. where his descriptive roll was given and that his signature to the roll is genuine.
