Mabon[?] in the No. Ca. line for 2 years__ Inscribed on the Roll of South Carolina at the rate of 80 Dollars [blank] Cents per annum, to commence on the 4th day of March, 1831. Certificate of Pension ifsued the 15 day of Sept: 33. and Sent to Joseph Grisham. Pickens District } on this second day of October 1832. Personally appeared before the Honorable Richard Gantt in the Court of General Sefsions and Common Pleas for the District aforesaid, Benjamin Grist, a resident of the said District of Pickens [illegible] the State aforesaid aged seventy three Years, who being first duly sworn according to Law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provisions made by the act of Congrefs pafsed June 7 1832. That he Enlisted in the army of the United States in the Year 1779 (as well as he recollects) with Capt. Peter Hedrick and served in the Regiment Commanded by Col. Maban in the North Carolina Line undre [sic] the following named Officers: He was in the battle at the Catawbe N.C. under Capt. Clendennen[?] & Col. [*]elford __ at the Battle of Lindley's Mill under the same Officer's where he was wounded in the head, his skull broke, was in the skirmishes at Jacob Skeaders[?] Mill and at Col. Ralstons on drowning Creek of Little Pedee __ He was Dismifsed on the 4 July 1782 for ten days he was never called on again nor was he ever regu= larly discharged. He had served over two years but for the Peace__ He has none as witnefs near him except Buckner Smith who was with him over Eight months & who now resides in Picken's District. He the said Benj. Grist hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pen sion or annuity except the present[?], and declares that his name is not on the pension Roll [illegible] in any state Sworrn to [&] Subscribed in open Court } his the day and year aforesaid } Benjamin Grist William L. Keith, Clerk } mark We have been long acquainted with Benjamin Grist above named, and do believe he was a Soldier in the war of the Revolution as he States. Pickens District } I Buckner Smith of the District aforesaid Do certify that I was well acquainted with Benjamin Grist within named him & myself were Regular Soldiers in the war of the Revolution & part of the time served in the same Company and I know a part of his Statement is true was with him in the Battle at Lindleys Mill where him & myself were both wounded. Keith } Clerk And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion that the within named Benjamin Grist applicant was a Revolutionary soldier, and served as he stated as appears from the testimony of persons XI am acquainted withX annexed and who are represented to me by those in where I have implicit confidence to be credible persons & that their[?] statement is [illegible] to belief Richard Gantt I William L. The State of South Carolina Personally appeared before me the undersigned Justice of the [illegible] for Pickens District and State aforesaid, Benjamin Grist of the aforesaid District, who being duly sworn deposith and saith, That he [blacked out] State precisely the length of his Service [blacked out] believes that He Enlisted in October 1779 and that he served faithfully as a private till the End of the war and was dismifsed on the 4th day of July 1782. This deponent had been two or three Tours in the Militia-- This deponent Saith on Oath that he Had served over Two years & a half at the time he was dismifsed on his Enlistment Also that he is very poor & had to go on foot to get Casper Hederick to make proof for him__ and there was none in Commifsion in the County he lived in. It was with [blacked out] he could travel to find Casper [Hederick]. this depo= nent does not know of another living witnefs except Buckner Smith & [blacked out] named Casper Hedrick who can testify to his [blacked out] his Sworn to } Benjamin Grist 7h. Correct I Certify that the foregoing statement and the answers agree with the evidence in the case above mentioned. Dyer Castor Examining Clerk Georgia Catharine Grist widow of Benjamin Grist who served in the Revolutionary No Ca war, as a private Inscribed on the Roll at a rate of 80 Dollars 00 Cents per annum, to commence on the 3d February, 1853. Certificate of Pension issued the 2d day of November 1853 and sent to Jno. T. Neely Present Recorded on Roll of Pensioners under act February 3, 1853, Page 151 Vol. [illegible] State of Georgia } Rabun County } On this the 4th day of Oct Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Three Personally appeared before the Inferior Court of the County and State afore said Catharine Grist a resident of Raburn County in Georgia aged not known but very oald, who being duly sworn according to Law doth on her oath make the following declar- -ation in order to obtain the benefit of the provi- -sions made by the Act of Congrefs passed the 3d day of February 1853 That she is the widow of Benjmain Grist of Pickens Distrcit South Carolina who was Pensioned at Eighty Dollars ($80) per annum under act of 1832 and drew his pension at Charlestown South Carolina She further declares that she was married to the said Benjamin Grist on the 2d day of April Eighteen Hundred and Thirty four that her husband the aforesaid Benjmain Grist died on the 2d day of February Eighteen Hundred and Thirty Six that she was married to him at the time above stated She further swears that she was a widow at the passage of the act and is still a widow and that she has never before made application for a Pension (except for a balance dew her husband at his death which she has received, her Catharine x Grist {Seal} mark Sworn to and Subscribed on the day and year above written before in open court H P Mozeley J.I.C. Teague do swear that I saw Mr. Benjamin Grist and Catharine Grist married at my Fathers House in Pickens District South Carolina by William Moten a Bapt Minister Several years since I further swear that Catharine Grist who executed the foregoing Declaration is the same person I further swear that she is a widow at this time I further swear that I have no Interest in Catharine Grist Pension claim this the 4th day of Oct 1853 his William D Teague mark Sworn to and Subscribed on the day and year above written in open court H S Mozeley J.I.C. State of Georgia } Rabun County } I Mary Collins do swear that I ws well accuainted with Benjamin Grist and Catharine Grist before they was Married and was at the house of Mr Teague in Pickens District South Carolina when they was married and I further swear that Mr Moten went in the House to marry them and I did not go in the house several persons when they came out of the house toald me that the aforesaid Benjamin Grist and Catharine was married I further swear that I was accuainted with them up to Benjmain Grist death which ws about the year 1836 and they lived together up to his death as man and wife I further swear that I have no Interest in Catharine Grist Pension claim this the 4th day of Oct 1853 Sworn to and subscribed in open court before her H.
