Oweida was born December 2, 1931, in Nashville to the late James Alvin Rowan and lois Vickers Rowan. She earned degrees from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, the University of Georgia, and Valdosta State university. She worked in the county extension service as a Home Economist in several South Georgia counties. She was married to the late John F. “Jonny” Ivemeyer, Jr. from Fitzgerald on March 26, 1960.She and Johnny resided in Fitzgerald and raised their children on the family farm. Oweida returned to the workplace as a schoolteacher at Irwin Academy in mystic, GA in the early 1970s. Oweida moved to Rabun County in 1980 with her family to operate the Rabun house Restaurant on Lake Rabun at Hall’s Boat House. In 1984 she retured to teaching at Rabun County High School where she retired as a counselor in 1994. In retirement she continued her counseling through volunteer opportunities with Hospice, and was an active member of Pilot Club of clayton. She was a former member of Irene Primitive Baptist Church (Lakeland), Eureka Baptist Church (Chula), and charter member of Faith Primitive Baptist Church in Toccoa. Oweida was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Lois, her husband Johnny, and three brothers, Tom Rowan of Lakemont, Charles Rowan of Roswell, Venton Rowan of Atlanta; three sisters-in-law Daphne Rowan of Roswell, Amelia Rowan of Enigma, Barbara Rowan of Enigma; brother in law Gene Crawford of Rebecca. Oweida is survived by her son John B. Ivemeyer, his wife Tina Darnell Ivermeyer, their children Bailey and Abi of Snellville; her daughter Joy O. Ivemeyer of Dacula; brothers and sisters Bobby Rowan of Enigma, Reba Johnson of Darlington, SC, Joyce Mathis (Sonny) of Enigma, Diane Bigler (Richard) off Clarkesville, and Randy Rowan(Martha) of Naylor; sisters-in-law Lillian Rowan of Lakemont, Mary Rowan of Atlanta and Shirley Crawford of Rebecca; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Oweida enjoyed faith, family and friends throughout her life and was blessed to have an abundance of each. She loved and was loved by many; her life was full; she drank from her saucer because her cup overflowed. In lieu of flowers we encourage donations to Faith Primitive Baptist, c/o Elder Charles Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Rabun Memory Park in Tiger.
