Phillips. Departed this life April 8, 1909. Mr. Phillips died after an illness of about nine days from pneumonia. He died peacefully at his home in Anderson. Mr. Phillips was a son of the late Capt. Nathaniel and Mahala Phillips. He was born in Rabun county, Georgia, February 10, 1861. He was 48 years of age. He leaves a wife and one little girl and one brother, P.K. Phillips, of Westminister, and three sisters, Misses Mary and Minerva Phillips and Mrs. G.C. Arve, of Long Creek, to mourn the loss of a devoted husband, kind father and loving brother. He was a favorite with all who knew him. It is hard to give him up, but it is God's will, and we have the sweet consolation that we shall meet him again. Mr. Phillips had been a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church for 24 years. It was a matter of pride with him that he had never sworn an oath nor been intoxicated in his life. He lived a Christian life. On November 1st, 1896, he was happily married to Miss Jennie Sanders, of Franklin, N.C., who survives him. The funeral services were conducted at his home by his pastor, Rev. Snider, and his body was gently laid to rest in the cemetery in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends. A true Christian, a devoted and loving husband, a kind and affectionate father, a good man has gone to his reward.
