He came to Sylvester in the early 1900's. He was a skilled blacksmith and worked for Messers. McGirt and Parks. He was an ordained deacon of the First African Baptist Church and served as Sunday School treasurer and choir member. He was married to Miss Annie Ruth James in 1912, the daughter of Thomas and Alice James. They were the parents of eight children, seven sons, Arthur James Jr., Cornelius, James Thomas, Hiram, Thad, Warren, Robert, and one daughter, Mrs. Alice Conway. He had 24 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He died March 30, 1972. His wife, Annie, died March 14, 1971.
