Key, city treasurer of Cuthbert Ga., was born in Cuthbert, July 10, 1865, and is son of Jesse B. and Mary (Bailey) Key. His father was born in Bedford County, Va., in 1814, went to Columbus, Ga., when sixteen years of age, and followed clerking for some time. He then went to Florence, Ga., and carried on the mercantile business with his uncle, Pleasant Preston, for some years until the firm moved to Cuthbert. The business prospered well until his death in 1869. He was a member of the F. and A.M. fraternity. The subject's mother was born in Georgia in about 1825 and still survives. Lucian E. is the youngest in a family of six children. His early days were spent on the farm but he afterwards attended business college in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. In 1886 he engaged in the buggy,wagon and harness business in Cuthbert and he is now one of the leading business men of the town. He is possessed of rare business sagacity and energy and is a young man of good habits. May 7, 1884, he was married to Miss Carrie Sealy, daughter of John W. and Rebecca (Dunn) Sealey, of Cuthbert, Ga. Their home has been blessed by the birth of two children: Nellie M. and Lucia.
