Howard W. Key, president of the Andrew Female College, Cuthbert, Ga., was born in Lumpkin, Ga., November 6, 1851. His father Bishop Joseph S. Key, an native of La Grange, Ga., is an eminent man in the southern states. He was educated at Emory College, Oxford, Ga. He united with the Methodist Church, South, when youngand soon afterwards joined the Georgia Conference. Later he was made bishop of the general conference then in session at Richmond, Va. His wife, Mrs. Susie M. (Snider) Key, is a daughter of Hon. Benjamin Snider, of Savannah, Ga., who was for several years in the State senate. To this marriage were born three children, viz.: Howard W., Benjamin W. and Lucy M. Howard W. is the eldest child of the family and his early life was spent in different cities of Georgia. His first schooling was received at Emory College and he afterwards attended the University of Virginia and graduated in 1871. In December, 1873, he united with the South Georgia Conference. In the summer of 1875 he was elected to the chair of natural science in the Weslyan Female College at Macon, Ga. he filled that postion until 1878, when he became associated with Prof. G.R. Glenn, as co-principal of the "Columbus Female College," at Columbus, Ga. In 1881 he was elected president of the Andrew Female College, at Cuthbert, and still fills that position acceptably. December 22, 1874, he was married to Ozella Biggers, daughter of Judge James J.W. and Carrie E. (Williams) Biggers, of Harris County. His wife was educated at Hamilton College and Mary Sharp College in Tennessee. They are the parents of five children, viz.: Joseph S., Jr., James B., Ozella S., Howard W., Jr. and Emma W.
