Bullock, Gov. of Said State. WHEREAS, It has been officially communicated to this Department that a malicious and cold blooded murder was committed in the county of Randolph on the 19th day of August, ultimo, upon the person of TOM NORTH, (colored) by one ALEXANDER FORT, a person of color, and that the said Fort has fled from justice and Whereas, The Sheriff of said county of Randolph certifies to me that he has exercised all diligence, and used every means in his power to apprehend the said Alexander Fort and bring him to justice, but without avail; and that the offering of a suitable reward is essential as a means of insuring the arrest of the said Alexander Fort; Now, therefore, to the end that the majesty of the law may be fully vindicated, and the perpetrator of this atrocious crime be brought to speedy trial and punishment, I, Rufus B. Bullock, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy of this State, and of the Militia thereof, have thought proper to issue this, my proclamation, hereby offering a reward of Five Hundred Dollars for the apprehension and delivery of the said Alexander Fort, with proof sufficient to convict, to the Sheriff of said county of Randolph. And I do moreover charge and require all officers in this State, civil and military, to be vigilant in endeavoring to apprehend the said Alexander Fort, in order that he may be brought to trial for the offense with which he stands charged. Given under my hand and the great Seal of the State, at the Capitol in Atlanta, this the 16th day of September, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-Nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the Ninety-Fourth.
