M. Saturday, May 30, 1992, at the grave side at Eastview Cemetery in Cuthbert. A native of Colquitt, Mr. Stapleton had resided in Cuthbert since 1969, when he moved from Wilmington, Delaware. He was a retired industrial relations worker with DuPont Corp., a former F. B. I. agent and a graduate of Mercer University Law School. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware, a former member of Cuthbert Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow and a trustee at Andrews College in Cuthbert. Mr. Stapleton was one of the founders of the Cuthbert Historical Society. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth K. Stapleton of Cuthbert; a son Judge Walter King Stapleton of Unionville, PA; a daughter, Jean Hellier of McLean, VA., two brothers, Charles J. Stapleton of Colquitt and Dr. John L. Stapleton of Columbus; a sister, Mary Lu Wilkin of Colquitt; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cuthbert Historical Society. He married 26 December 1928 in Randolph County, GA to Elizabeth Grantland King, born 30 November 1906, daughter of Walter Ernest King and Ethledra Prothro King.
