Morgan to Fielding Bradford $11,666.67 Fronts Broad & Ellis St. Aug. 9/21 This indenture made this ninth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one between William MORGAN of Lynchburg, Virginia and Elizabeth K. MORGAN, his wife, of the one part and Fielding BRADFORD of the City of Augusta and State of Georgia of the other part, witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of eleven thousand six hundred and sixty six dollars & sixty seven cents to him the said William MORGAN in hand paid by the said Fielding BRADFORD before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said William MORGAN hath bargained, sold and doth by these presents bargain, sell and deliver when ????off convey and confirm to the said Fielding BRADFORD and his heirs forever in fee simple all his right title and interest (he the said MORGAN being two-thirds owner of said property) in and to a certain lot & houses in the City of Augusta and state of Georgia deeded to William MORGAN and Fielding BRADFORD by Thomas CUMMING, James FRASER, Rob CAMPBELL, Mary MEIGS and Charles D. MEIGS and bounded as follows by Broad Street on the north, by the lot of John HOWARD on the west, by Ellis Street on the south and by lot of William WHITE on the east, having a front on Broad and Ellis Streets of sixty-six feet and running back in depth between parallel lines from one street to the other and being part of lot know as the plan of the said city by the number thirty-seven and at present occupied by MORGAN & BRADFORD, Jno. M. CLARKE & CO. and Robt. WHITE & CO. to have and to hold the lot and houses aforesaid with the app??tenances thereunto belonging to the only use and behoof of him the said Fielding BRADFORD and his heirs forever in fee simple and the said William MORGAN doth for himself his heirs, executors and administrators covenant and agree to warrant and forever defend the lot & houses aforesaid to the said Fielding BRADFORD and his heirs forever in fee simple, free from the claim, title or demand of all and every person or persons whomsoever. In witness whereof the said William MORGAN & Elizabeth K., his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written. Wm. MORGAN (Seal) E. K. MORGAN (Seal) Corporation of Lynchburg to wit: We, Albon McDANIEL and John HANCOCK, justices of the peace for the corporation aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Wm. MORGAN a party to a certain deed bearing date the 9th August 1821 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our corporation and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed, and desired us to certify said acknowledgement to the clerk of the county court of Richmond County, State of Georgia, in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands & seals this 28th May 1821 Albon McDANIEL (Seal) John HANCOCK (Seal) Corporation of Lynchburg to wit: We Albon McDANIEL & John HANCOCK, justices of the peace in the corporation aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Elizabeth K. MORGAN, the wife of Wm. MORGAN, parties to a certain deed bearing date 9th August 1821 and hereunto annexed personnally appeared before us in our corporation aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Elizabeth K. MORGAN, acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared she had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it. Given under our hands & seals this 28th May 1822. Albon McDANIEL (Seal) John HANCOCK Additional Comments: Other sources indicate William MORGAN & Fielding BRADFORD were merchants and partners and had a firm in Lynchburg, VA entitled MORGAN & BRADFORD. MORGAN & BRADFORD were listed on 1818 Richmond Co., GA tax list and also had a house for sale in Augusta per a newspaper article. Thanks to cousin Jan for sending me this deed.
