R. Avenue. This institution, which has for its object the support and education of orphan children, was established by act of General Assembly, January 22, 1852. Endowed by George M. Newton and Isaac S. Tuttle; it is in a prosperous condition, The ground embraces about 35 acres, on the eastern portion of which has been erected a handsome and commodious building, supporting at present 129 orphans; 54 boys and 68 girls, received from all sections of the country. Established in 1869. In charge of four Sisters of Mercy, who receive from the city $92 per month for their servics. Three servants, one male and two female, regularly employed. Any physican or member of Council can give certificates entitling parties admission.
