Personally appeared before me, Joseph Rufs who being duly sworn saith that he is about to bring to this State Thirty seven Negro Slaves who are field hand except the small ones, to wit Gummer 60, Prince 18, Ben 16, Gummer 14, Penelope 12, Lucy 10, Rebecca 13, Little Lucy 35, Silvey 15, Paul 14, Hester 10, Joe, 6, Melanda 5, Alfred 3, Lucy 40 years, Nancy 25, Will 9, Susannah 6, Mary Ann 45, Jackson 18, Harriet 15, Florah 50, Sophia 30, Maria 12, Robert 8, Sebtland 4, Mary 2, Lorah 18, Sophia 2, Harry 28, Susannah 25, Mariah 3, Lary 25, Nancy 20, John 2, Harry Davis 23 and Fuller 30 years of age that he is the true and lawful owner of said Slaves; and that they are about to be brought, imported or introduced into this State, for the sole purpose of being held to service and labor by him, his heirs, executors, administrators or legatees, and without any intent to sell, transfer, barter, lend, heir, mortgage, procure to be taken or sold under execution or other legal process, or in any other way or manner to alien or dispose of said Slaves, so as to vest the use or enjoyment of their labor or service in any other person or persons for the lives of the said Slaves, or for any other period of time, or in any other way or manner to defeat, avoid or elude the true intent and meaning of the act of the General Assembly of this State relative to the importation of Slaves therein.
