The victim, Raymond Stroble, son of Mr and Mrs David A Stroble, Jr, 434 Cottage St, was pulled from the surf by would be rescuers, but he died shortly afterwards in a Charleston hospital. Raymond, who was in ill health, apparently went into the water too far and was unable to make it back to shore. He died at 5:03 pm. Other survivors include five sisters, Mrs RW Williams, Miss Battey E Stroble, Miss Vernelle Stroble, Miss Jeanette Stroble and Miss Patricia Stroble; and his maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs CO Clark, all of Augusta, and his paternal grandfather, David A Stroble Sr of Graniteville. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Elliott Sons. 7-6-1954, page 2A Raymond R Stroble Funeral services for Raymond Randall Stroble, 14 year old son of Mr and Mrs David A Stroble Jr of Augusta, who drowned at a Charleston, SC beach Saturday, will be conducted at Elliott Sons Funeral Chapel today at 5 pm. The Rev Jack M Corry officiating. Interment will be in West View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Corley, RL Swanson, Billy Pitts, Freddie Pierce, Denny Bilton and Junior Young. A native of Augusta, the youth had resided in the city all of his life.
