Hall of Gracewood Dead Prominent Richmond County Citizen and Farmer Laid at Rest Yesterday Afternoon Was Greatly Beloved Yesterday afternoon at Gracewood Methodist Church was held the funeral of William J. Hall, whose death occurred Sunday morning following an illness of several months. He was one of the most prominent and widely known men in Richmond County and for half a century he had been actively identified with civic and religious work of his community and entire surrounding section. Mr. Hall was superintendent of Gracewood Sunday School for over a quarter of a century and at the time of his death he was a member of the Board of Education of Richmond County, a member of the board of Stewards of Gracewood Methodist church and otherwise associated with the advancement of the community. The funeral yesterday afternoon was held in the new Gracewood church which edifice he had a leading part in starting to build after the old church was destroyed by fire last summer. Rev. William L. Delph, well known as on of the oldest and foremost Methodist ministers in Georgia, who had been closely associated with Mr. Hall for over a century, assisted Rev. L.B. Jones of Gracewood church in conducting the funeral ceremonies and Rev. C.T. Mize of Asbury Methodist Church, Augusta, also took part. Friend to Community The church was crowded with friends of the deceased and a large number of beautiful floral offerings banked the chancel of the church where rested the bier of the friends of man in the community. The interment was in the Hall- Brandon nearby where under the shade of the trees he was laid to rest beside his brothers and other members of the family. Surviving members of the family include his wife, Mrs. Lillian Seago Hall, one adopted daughter, Miss Josie Hall, Tom Verdel, a nephew residing with the family and a niece, his twin sister, Louisa Verdel, residing with Mrs. Hall's parents who live nearby; one sister, Mrs. Foster E. Gibson of Augusta, and the four children of Mrs. and Mrs. Gibson, also being nephews of the deceased, names Geo. H., Foster E, William H. and John D. Gibson. Active pallbearers were: Horace M. Fleming, Thomas Rosier, J.D. Foohe, J.O. Lawrence, James L. Fulghum and J.M. Wallace. Honorary pallbearers were: B.B. McCowan, Geo. S. Murphey, Terrell Wiggins, Fred Bodsher, Dan Kerr, Frank. H. Turner, J.C. McAuliffe, Thos H. Sherman, Robert C. Peebles. Mr. Hall was 68 years of age at the time of his death and though living in Gracewood he was widely known through this section. He had two brothers, both dead, one in the shoe business in Augusta, and he was himself well known in the business world, though devoting his time mostly to agricultural pursuits, retiring from active life, however a few years ago. His death is greatly regretted by all who knew him and the family has been the recipient of many sincere expressions of sympathy.
