Mr. Harris several years ago was outstanding as a member of the American Legion, and was commander of Richmond post when that unit led the entire state in a membership campaign. He was serving in the capacity of commander when Richmond post sponsored the "Carnival of Fun," one of the biggest festivals in the history of Augusta, three years ago, and it was his hard work and leadership that made the celebration an outstanding success. His survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel McLelland Harris; two daughters, Mrs. O.K. Fletcher, Jr., Woods Hole, Mass., and Miss Evelyn L. Harris, Augusta; mother, Mrs. Laura C. Harris, Augusta; sister, Mrs. V.F. Matthews, Jacksonville, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. Additional Comments: Name is spelled "Barney" in obituary; other records have it as "Barnie," he apparently signed his name "BJ Harris." His widow, Ethel McLelland Harris, remarried a man whose last name was "Harriss." She died in 1957 and is buried in the same cemetery under that last name.
