Augusta, Ga., May 22- Jesse Rutledge Hunter died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John A. Johnston, in this city, Sunday night at 8 o'clock, and the funeral service was held at the residence this afternoon, interment following at the city cemetery. Mr. Hunter was 76 years of age, and has resided in Augusta only one year, having come with his wife from Athens to spend their declining years with their daughter. The deceased was a confederate veteran, having served the entire four years of the war. He enlisted in Company B, Ninth Florida volunteers when he was 18 years of age and throughout the bloody siege, fought valiantly for the cause of the confederacy. Mr. Hunter was a man of distinguished lineage, being a son of the late Judge B. Hunter, of Jonesboro, Ohio, and a grandson of the late Edward Rutledge, a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia. He married Miss Margaret Tyson, daughter of the late Colonel L. Tyson, of Brighton, S. C. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters and one son: Mrs. J. A. Johnston and Miss Frances Hunter, of Augusta, and Mr. J. R. Hunter, of New Hampshire. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother: Mrs. W. W. Randall, of McRae; Mrs. L. H. Lane, of LaGrange; Mrs. Matthews, of High Spring, Fla.; Mrs. C. A. Lopez, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Mr. George Hunter, of Ocalla, Fla.
