Meads entered to rest while at home in Augusta at 1:13 PM, July 17, 1976. He was born in Savannah, GA and movet to Augusta at an early age. He was the owner / operator of Meads' Sign Company, past president of the Augusta Chapter of American Business Club, and a life long member of the Curtis Baptist Church. He entered the Army just before WWII and during his service he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Prior to and during his military service, he entertained many of the troops while boxing. He was able to work his way up from three round bouts into main event matches, and on to becoming one of the top ten condenders for the Lightweight Championship of the World. He is survived by his wife Laura E. Meads, son Harold D. Meads, sister Juanita Spangler, granddaughter Shannon M. Meads, two grandsons, Harold David Meads, and Byron MacKinley Meads. Funeral services will take place at Elloitt's Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road, and he will be layed to rest at Hill Crest Memorial Gardens on Richmond Hill Road.
