Duncan, Sr., 76 of 23 Broad St. died Saturday, June 27, 1973 at a local infirmary. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Poteet Funeral Home Chapel on Greene Street with the Rev. Noel Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. He was a native of Ward, S. C. but had resided in Augusta for the past 47 years. He was a retired official of the Georgia and Florida Railroad. He first entered railroad service with the Southern Railroad as a telegraph operator and joined the G & F in 1922 in the same capacity. He later moved to several locations as a freight agent. He also served as chief revenue clerk in the accounting department. He retired after 42 years of railroad service as an assistant freight traffic manager. He was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church and Albert Pike Lodge, A & FM. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillian Wilson Duncan, one daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. Gwin, Jr. of Augusta, one son James B. Duncan, Jr. of Augusta, and three sisters: Mrs. Lesley L. Johnson, Carrie Duncan, both of Augusta and Mrs. Horace Murrell of Trenton, SC. Pallbearers will be Earl Davis, Hugh Cross, Sumper Wright, Gaston D. Brown, Julian Gwin and Dorroh Newell. Friends may call at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas J. Gwin Jr. 2706 Willington Dr. or the funeral home.
