B. Whitaker, This City Struck by Truck on Route No One M.B. Whitaker, 33, of 410 Moore Avenue, a foreman employed by the state highway department, was fatally injured early yesterday morning when a truck being used in highway work on the Deans Bridge road, near the August Bathing pond, ran over him. Whitaker died at the University hospital shortly after being carried there. A coroner's jury yesterday afternoon returned a verdict that "the deceased came to his death as a result of an accident". According to evidence submitted at the investigation Whitaker was standing at a fill when the truck loaded with dirt backed down the hill and struck him. His coat, it was stated was caught on a projection of the truck and he was dragged beneath the rear wheels before the driver could stop. G.D. Castleberry, Gainesville, GA employed by the C.M. Lyle construction company, also of Gaineseville was the driver of the machine. Funeral services will be conducted from Central Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev T.W. Bowen will officiate and interment will be in West View cemetery. Mr. Whitaker was born at Berzelia GA, and had been a resident of this city for 12 years. He was a member of Woodlawn Council, No 29. J.O.U.A.M. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bertha Leverett Whitaker, two sons, Malvern and Johnny Whitaker; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Whitaker, Harland, GA; two brothers, Asa R. Whitaker, Augusta, and H.L. Whitaker, Chicago, IL; two sisters Mrs. W.C. Partridge, Augusta, and Mrs. J.G.
