C.V. WALKER PASSED AWAY IN ATLANTA Well known Augustan died Suddenly at the Capital. Had been living there for last several years--well known and kindly remembered here. Atlanta, Ga, Sept 9-(Special)-Col CV Walker for forty years a resident of Augusta, died at his home in this city this afternoon at half past two o'clock. He was seventy years of age. Colonel Walker was a nephew of General William HT Walker. He was in the real estate business in Augusta and at one time was one of the wealthiest men in that city. He was a member of the Augusta council for nine years. During the war he was the keeper of the Arsenal at Augusta. Colonel Walker has been suffering from Bright's Disease for some time. He was up yesterday, however. This morning he did not rise as usual and it was supposed he was sleeping. He was not aroused and later in the day when an attempt was made to awaken him it was found that he was in thes stupor which is peculiar to the disease with which he was afflicted. Without regaining counsciousness he died at half past two. He is survived by Mrs Walker, and by the following children; Mrs JE Miller, of Atlanta; JD Walker, of Sparta; Mrs PW Carswell, of Munnerlyn, Ga; Mrs WC Davidson, of Crawfordville; Mrs Sue G Vance, of Atlanta; Mrs George D Doughty, of Augusta. His yound son Val Walker and Misses Josie, Julia, Ruth and Fleming Walker. It is expected that the body will be take to Augusta tomorrow morning for interment. Colonel Walker, had been living in Atlanta about a year. Col Walker will be well remembered in this city. It has been only a couple of years since he moved to Atlanta. For years Col Walker was a prominent real estate man of this city and associated with many of the business enterprises. For years during the latter part of his life he conducted an auction house in the city, and was the county's and city's offical vendue master. There was a time when every man, woman, and child, in the city knew Col Walker. He spent the most of his life here. He was an upright, honerable, whole souled, and thorough Christian gentleman. He possessed a friendly disposition and to once meet him was to cultivate his acquaintances. He had the happy faculty of rarely forgetting faces and names. Col Walker has a number of relatives in this city. Moving to Atlanta two years ago, he spent the closing days of his life with his children. He died yesterday afternoon after a protracted illness. The remains will reach Augusta this morning, and the funeral will take place this afternoon at 5 o'clock from the city cemetery chapel. The funeral service will be conducted by Rev SR Belk, pastor of St James Methodist church, of which Col Walker was a leading member for many years.
