E. PRITCHARD IS CLAIMED BY DEATH One of Augusta's Oldest and Best Citizens Died Yesterday Afternoon. Major Edward E. Pritchard, a prominent and highly esteemed citizen of Augusta, died at his home here, 601 Crawford avenue, at 5:50 p.m. yesterday. Major Pritchard had been ill for some weeks and for nearly a week past his loved one and friends had begun to fear that the end might be expected at any time. Major Pritchard was 71 years of age. Throughout his life he had been a useful citizen of his native city, state and nation. He was a gallant Confederate veteran and was for many years a deputy sheriff. He was born in Augusta Sept. 25th 1837. He was for many years connected with the old Augusta Constitutionalist. He entered the services of the Confederacy April 13th 1861, as sergeant in the Washington Artillery. He took part in the battles of Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Atlanta and other battles. He was promoted to 1st Lieut. in April, 1862 and was made Captain of Artillery in September, 1862 and was given the rank of Major before the close of the war. His body will be laid to rest wrapped in the folds of his old battle flag. Major Pritchard married Caroline E., the daughter of the late John A. Bohler. The wife and the following children survive their union: Mrs. W. W. Thompson, of Augusta, Miss Sarah C. Pritchard, of Augusta, Mrs. Wm. S. Perkins, of Savannah, Miss Elizabeth Pritchard, of Augusta, Mr. Chas. F. Pritchard, of Augusta, Mrs. Ollie R. Murrah, of Augusta, and Mr. John B. Pritchard, of Augusta. Two sisters also survive him, Mrs. A. J. Adkins, of Atlanta, and Mrs. James Hughes, of Augusta and other relatives. The funeral services will take place at 3:30 p.m. from the Sacred Heart church. Interment at Summerville cemetery.
