Shaw, Grady Columbus, May 15, 1898 - July 16, 1965 Shaw, Lillian Ophelia Wilkerson, October 29, 1902 - September 19, 1993 (wife of Grady Columbus Shaw) [Grady and Lillian Shaw married on July 21, 1918 at Milstead, Rockdale County, Georgia. Grady was the oldest son of Columbus 'Lum' Turner Shaw (April 13, 1875 - April 17, 1954 of Lithonia, GA) and Minnie Zeporah Wood Shaw (October 6, 1879 - April 20, 1973 of Dekalb County, GA) Lillian was the oldest daughter of Charles Reubin Wilkerson (February 16, 1879 - March 17, 1961 of Conyers, GA) and Eula Amanda Childers (born September 12, 1881 of Polk County, GA). Lillian's mother died when she was 9 years old. Her father then married Mattie Clara Kiser who raised Lillian, her sisters and siblings by her fathers second marriage. Her father was a supervisor at the mill in Milstead. Grady owned the barber shop in Milstead, GA for many years. Lillian was a housewife and mother. They were long time members of Milstead United Methodist Church. They raised 5 sons (Charles Columbus Shaw, James Edward Shaw, Grady Columbus Shaw, Jr., Billy Joseph Shaw and Jack Kenneth Shaw). Grady died suddenly at age 67 years of a massive heart attack. Lillian lived into old age and was preceded in death by all but one of her sons. Both Grady and Lillian were healthy and active until the time of their deaths.] Shaw, Charles Columbus, May 21, 1919 - December 3, 1986. [Charles was born and raised in Milstead, Rockdale County, Georgia. He was the oldest son of Grady and Lillian Shaw. Charles married at age 19 years to Sarah Ruth Baird (of Porterdale, Newton County, GA). They married on August 5, 1938 in Porterdale. They raised 7 children. After they married both Charles and Ruth went back to school. They finished high school in Porterdale, went on to college (Charles got his degree at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, Ruth took classes periodically for many years while raising her family and completed her bachelors degree at Georgia State University) and both got Master's degrees from Emory University in Decatur, GA. Eventhough he had a wife and two young daughters, Charles joined the Marines in 1943 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He served on the Marshall and Gilbert Islands attached to dive bomber squadron #245 U.S. Marine Corps. Charles became a United Methodist Minister and served in the North Georgia Conference. He served Pastorates in Elijah, Griffin, Rome, Fairburn, and several in the Atlanta area. He retired in 1983. Charles died suddenly at age 67 of a massive heart attack in Fulton County, Georgia. His funeral was held in East Point, Fulton County, Georgia on Friday December 5, 1986. Eventhough his funeral was held mid-day on a Friday the large church was full. Approximately 200 people followed the funeral procession from East Point to Eastview Cemetery in Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia. This was a testiment to the lives he touched and the impact he had on the world while he was in it.] Shaw, James Edward, November 15, 1920 - May 14, 1993. [James was the second son of Grady and Lillian Shaw. James never married and lived in Milstead, Rockdale County, Georgia his whole life. He worked at Lithonia Lighting in Dekalb County, Georgia. James died of colon cancer. He was active, even in his illness, until his death. He exhibited a great deal of courage and strength in dealing with his final illness.] Shaw, Jack Kenneth, June 11, 1938 - January 8, 1986. [Jack was born in Milstead, Rockdale County, Georgia and died in Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia. Jack was employeed with the Coca-Cola Company. Jack married Ann Bell in 1960 and had one son in that marriage. Jack married Annie Lee Persall on July 12, 1964 in Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia.
