R. McCalla was celebrated at the old family homestead, Sheffield, Rockdale county, Ga., Friday night at 8 o'clock. They were cheered by the presence of their numerous descendants- children and grandchildren, friends and relatives. Two of the same descendants were present, Mrs. Phillips, of DeKalb county, and Mrs. Moore of Auburn, Ala., a sister. The old homestead, the birthplace of all the children, and a great many of the grandchildren, was appropriately and beautifully decorated. A large marriage bell was suspended from the center of the parlor under which the aged and venerable couple stood with the attendants of their youth, and the Pastor of their church surrounded by their offspring and friends, while thanks for the blessings of a long and happy life together were offered, and Divine favor invoked for their future, peaceful decline, that their last days will be their happiest ones. Then the presents were displayed, and they were numerous, valuable and beautiful. After which an elegant repast was served in the old dining room. The table was in the form of a Roman L., which stands for 50. "Aunt Aggie," the old cook, Adeline, an accomplished dining room servant who had served an age faithfully, were present and served the table as in the days of yore. Aunt Kittie, Aunt Hannah and many other worthy family servants contributed their presence and services to the happy gathering. Nothing to mar the occasion, save unavoidable absence of one son, four grand-children and one great grand-child, the beautiful little daughter of Mr. E. P. Carr, of your city.- [The editor returns many thanks to Judge A. C. McCalla, of Conyers, for a box of delicious cake. It was from the table of our valued friends who have lived to celebrate their "golden wedding," and as such we appreciated it more than words can tell.] This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
