W. Maddox, of that city. He had been despondent for some time, on account of not being able to obtain work, and because of financial losses. For several days his friends had noticed a great change in him, but little did they realize that he was driven to such desperation. He would pass them and not speak, a thing he rarely ever did. He went home about six o’clock in a moody state, and came back up town soon afterward. Without any explanation he walked into the store of Thompson & Stewart and pulled out his pistol, deliberately pulled the trigger. The bullet went crashing through _____ _______ and he fell to the floor. Every effort was made to save his life but to no avail. He died Sunday morning about ___ o’clock. He was a married man and leaves a wife and two children. The funeral services took place Sunday evening in the Presbyterian church at that place, the Rev. Dr. Henry Quigg conducting the services. Mr. John M. Almand, son of Mr. W. D. Almand, came near committing suicide in Conyers last Saturday. The suicide of Maddox shortly before, seems to have been the means of suggesting such an end to Mr. Almand. He went to the place where Mr. Maddox was gasping for breath, and after viewing the man in his last struggle for life, immediately went to the Commercial Hotel and asked Mrs. Morgan, the proprietress, for a room. He went to the room and in less than thirty minutes hurried down stairs, he regretted his rash act and requested that a physician be sent for at once. Dr. R. A. Guinn came at once and by heroic treatment on his part, saved the life of the man. He is slowly recovering and will soon be out. No cause is given for his rash act. The room in which Almand tried to end his life is known as the “suicide room”. This makes the fifth time that different people have tried to commit suicide in this room.
