He, with his Sunday School Class, was on an outing for the afternoon. While the two teachers and others were gathering dry wood to build a fire to prepare lunch, several little boys slipped away and went in bathing. Harry got in water over his head and when the alarm was given the teacher, Miss Louise Saye, jumped in and tried to rescue him and came very near losing her own life. A small boy tried to rescue the body but could not, when immediately runners were sent to the mill for help. Roy Graham, a young fellow in his teens, finally located the body and with the assistance of Miss Pennington, one of the teachers, brought it to shore, and everything possible done to bring the boy back to life, but to no avail. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church Saturday morning by Rev. E. A. Hardegree and Rev. Kelley, followed by interment at Bethel Christian Church. A throng of schoolmates, relatives and friends followed the body to its last resting place. He is survived by his mother and father, one brother and two sisters and a host of relatives and friends and schoolmates who mourn his passing.
