She was a child of the covenant, and at an early age publicly professed her faith in Christ and avouched the Lord to be her God. She was a winsome little girl and a universal favorite among all her associates, neighbors and acquaintances. As she grew up into young womanhood she was an object of general admiration. “None knew her but to Love her, None named her but to praise.” She married Mr. John Brodnax in 1886. For a season the happy pair made Carrolton their home, but in the course of time the improvidences and neglect of the husband produced an alienation, which forced the once happy bride to seek a means of support for herself and son. Her genteel bearing, intelligent looks and amiable manners secured her a place in Chamberlain-Johnson-DuBose Co. By her close attention to business, and by her obliging disposition, she soon became a general favorite in the store and won the unbounded confidence of her employers. To the writer Mr. Chamberlain complimented Mrs. Brodnax in no stinted terms. She had then made herself a necessity in the store. Only a short time before disease compelled her to give up her place, the floor manager stated to a friend of mine that Mrs. Brodnax was the best and most efficient clerk that the company had in their employ. He stated further that as an evidence of their unlimited confidence in her she was the only one in the store permitted to leave her place and sell goods in any and all of the departments of that great, mammoth emporium. The success for seven or eight years in this house her health failed and she returned to Conyers to breathe her native air and to die at the home of her father, Mr. Asa F. Sims. Here, while under the paternal roof, she faded away while enjoying the most kindly attentions of the whole household. Her last end, was peace. These were among her last words; “Jesus is with me,” and then sang “Rock of Ages Cleft for me.” “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.” After a very tender service at the Methodist Church, conducted by Revs. Ellis and Quigg, the mortal remains of the once lovely Belle Sims were laid to rest by the dust of her sainted mother. May the richest blessings of Heaven rest upon her dear boy, Harry and may he ever affectionately remember the loving care of his dear departed mother. Follow her councils and you shall meet again on the sparkling sands of the shining shore. “Dust to its narrow house beneath, Soul to its place on high; They that have seen thy look is death, No more may fear to die.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/rockdale/obits/b/brodnax3214gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/gafiles/ File size: 3.3 Kb
