W. CARTER, JR. A pall of deep gloom was cast over Conyers by the tragic death of one of the well-known young man of the town, Mr. J. W. Carter, Jr. Joe, as he was familiarly called by those who knew him best and loved him most, who met his untimely fate in an automobile accident May 18th, 1926. He was the youngest son of J. W. Carter and was born in Conyers, Ga., on July 19, 1898, and was happily wedded to Miss Hannah Hohl, October 1, 1918 in her home church in Philadelphia, Penn. For a man of his age Joe had a wide experience, having served several years in the navy and visited many foreign countries. In the service of the world war he was faithful to his every call of duty, but finally failing health brought him home and after repeated visits to various hospitals he improved in health and was associated in business with his father at the time of his death. Joe was an affectionate son,, and husband and a true, loyal friend. We who had known him from the day he entered school as a little boy, the idol of his parents as a lad, the jolly companion of other lads, as a young man faithful and true to his friends, and as a son and husband in his every day life at home we will miss his cheery whistle of greeting and the bright, cordial salutation which was ever ready for his friend. As the sun was sinking to rest behind western hills his flower laden casket was tenderly lowered to rest in Eat View Cemetery in a bank of lovely flowers, which were a silent testimony of appreciation of him and his family. The funeral services held in the home by Rev. T. M. CALLAWAY in a very impressive manner, were concluded at the grave-side and the hopes of aged father and the light and joy of the life of a young wife were laid away to await the happy resurrection morn.
