The Solid South, February 20, 1886
     After giving an account of the tragic death of Mr. Pat Cooper our 
correspondent has this to say of his life: “Pat was an orderly young man just 
entering his 32 year. His was a short life and tragic death, but such was his 
life, though short, that we can say that “ he hath not lived in vain.” He was a 
comfort to his widowed mother in declining years and an honor to his wife and 
little boy. He was a man of few words and unassuming in his manner.
     At a series of meetings held at Flatwoods academy last fall he heard the 
call of the gospel and yielded to the influence of grace and was first to 
connect himself with the church as a charter member of the Christian Church at 
that place. He leaves an aged mother and many brothers and sisters and a host 
of relatives and friends and a wife and darling boy to whom we would 
say, “Mourn not as those who have no hope for he is not lost but gone before.”
