He had been in declining health for several years. He was well known in business and church circles. He was one of the organizers of the Fulton National bank and was a director for a long time. He assisted in organizing the Decatur Bank and Trust company and served as its president and chairman of the board unitl his health failed. He was sales manager for the Virginia-Carolina Chemical company in Georgia until he retired to conduct his own fertilizer brokerage business. Mr. McCalla was for 30 years a steward and trustee in the First Methodist church of Decatur. He was a Gideon and a Mason. He was born in Sheffield, Rockdale county, Georgia, and his early life was spent in Conyers, where he married Miss Mary Stewart. After his first wife's death he married Mrs. Lizzie Pearce Ramspeck, who survives him. He is also survived by his brothers, James, of Conyers; Frank, of Atlanta, and by two step-children, Miss Lottie Ramspeck and Carl Ramspeck. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock at the residence, 176 South Candler street, Decatur. Rev. J. M. Eakes officiated. Interment in Decatur Cemetery.
