A LITTLE ONE GONE
     Died July 10th, at “Forest Home,” near Conyers, Ga., after a lingering 
illness, little Ruby, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew J. Smith, aged two 
years, six months and a few days. Little Ruby was the center of sweetest and 
strongest affections, herself the very idol of fond parents and loving brothers 
and sisters, but death loves a shining mark and she is no more. We truly 
sympathize with the bereaved family, praying that “He that doeth all things 
well,” may send sweet comfort and peace to the now almost broken hearted.
“I know in grief like thine how more than vain
All comfort to the stricken heart appears,
And as the bursting cloud must spend its rain
So grief its tears.
I know that when thy little darling’s form.
Had freed the living spirit fettered there,
You could not pierce beyond the breaking storm
In your despair.
You only knew those precious eyes were dim
You only felt the silent lips were cold;
You only clung to what remained of her 
Beneath the mold,
You could not see the tender hand that caught
Your little lamb to shield her from all harm;
You missed her from your own, but never thought
Of Jesus’ arms.
But, Oh! dear parents, look! The gate ______.
And through the darkness smiling from the skies.
Are beaming on you brighter than these stars.
Your darlings eyes.”
